Builders begin health centre as archaeology row resolved

WORK has begun on a major health centre project for the Lothians.

The 20 million Musselburgh Primary Care Centre had been delayed because Roman remains were discovered on the site, and there had been a dispute between the health board and the land owner over who should pay for the archaeological work.

That has now been resolved, and the centre is now on course to be completed by the spring of 2012, providing a range of health services for the area.

Gerry Power, general manager of the East Lothian Community Health Partnership, said: "We are extremely pleased to move forward with the development.

"Patients, the local community and our staff will all benefit from a modern environment and the many healthcare services that will be available.

"I am sure the new dental services will be very much welcomed."
