THOUSANDS of new homes are to be built after a developer agreed to buy land from a council.

West Lothian Council have agreed to sell land in the Calderwood area of East Calder to Stirling Developments Limited for £117,000.

The first phase of the work is due to start this summer on land which lies either side of an old farm road that will serve as the main access route.

It comes after the local authority announced plans to build a minimum of 1000 new council homes over the next five years. Six hundred homes will be built in the programme’s first phase, with nearly half in Broxburn.
