Builder killed by wall is named by police

A BUILDER who died after a wall collapsed on top of him has been named by police.

John Paterson, 66, from Uphall, West Lothian, was carrying out work at a home in Langton View, East Calder, when the structure came down on him at around 12.15pm on Saturday.

Mr Paterson was taken to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary for treatment but died shortly after arriving.

Two other men were also injured in the incident and taken to hospital. One needed surgery after injuring his finger and the other suffered a broken shoulder and ribs.

Lothian and Borders Police and the Health and Safety Executive are carrying out a joint investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

A police spokesperson said: “Lothian and Borders Police responded to an address in Langton View, East Calder at around 12.15pm on Saturday October, 13 after a man was seriously injured when a wall collapsed on him.

“Despite the best efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries.”
