Budding directors aim to get in the picture

ASPIRING filmmakers are set to be put through a movie masterclass in the Capital to boost Scotland's film industry.

Twelve directors will be selected and put through a training course thanks to an initiative by the Scottish Documentary Institute.

Five short documentaries with a budget of up to 16,000 each will be commissioned at an industry pitching session in December.

The call for entries is now open and the deadline for applications is October 6.

Professor Noe Mendelle, director of the Scottish Documentary Institute, said: "Our films are picked up by many festivals worldwide every year, providing a genuine launch pad for filmmakers' careers. With this year's theme we want to reflect on the changing world around us and hope to receive a wide range of personal ideas from Scottish-based filmmakers engaging a diverse audience."
