Brussels sprouts can clog NHS wards

BRUSSELs sprouts should come with a health warning, doctors have claimed, after a Scot who ate them was hospitalised.

The vegetables contain vitamin K, which promotes blood clotting and counteracts anticoagulant drugs. An Ayrshire man was prescribed the medication after suffering heart failure. When his blood started to clot close to Christmas last year, he was admitted to the Golden Jubilee National Hospital in Clydebank.

Doctors found medication was not working as he had been eating too many sprouts, said the Medical Journal of Australia.
