HUNDREDS of council homes are to be built as part of a £54 million plan to help a town recover from the loss of a major employer.

West Lothian Council said some 300 properties could be built in Broxburn, where the closure of meat-processing factory Hall’s led to the loss of 1700 jobs.

Eight locations for a 600-home scheme were identified as potential sites at an executive meeting.

The sites include Wester Inch in Bathgate, the Eastfield recreation ground in Fauldhouse and the old Pumpherston school and community centre.

A total of 250 homes would be built at Kirkhill, Broxburn, and another 100 at Redhouse West in Blackburn under the plans.

Livingston’s Owen Square, East Calder’s Millbank Depot and an old school site in Broxburn are other locations.
