Broomhouse Centre celebrates 20 years of helping disadvantaged

THE acclaimed Broomhouse Centre is celebrating 20 years of delivering vital services for the local community today.

Edinburgh South West MP Alistair Darling and River City actress Eileen McCallum, patron of the centre's Beacon Club, were set to congratulate staff and volunteers on their work.

Every year the centre raises more than 370,000 to keep running personal, social and community development opportunities.Last year it opened its own business delivering outside catering to help fund its work.

Mr Darling said: "I have seen the work of the centre develop over many years, and am always impressed by the difference it makes to people.

"At a time when securing funding is becoming increasingly difficult for charities, it is great to see The Crescent Kitchen is thriving and raising money."

Eileen McCallum added: "For the people who come to the Beacon Club, the support they get not only prevents them becoming isolated, it also helps them stay in their own homes for longer than might otherwise be possible."
