Broadwood grain merchants accident victim named

THE man who died in an industrial accident at a grain merchants in Aberdeenshire on Monday has been named as David Leslie, 49, from the Balmedie area of Aberdeenshire.

He was pronounced dead at the scene after the emergency services were called to the plant of East Coast Viners at Broadwood near Drumlithie.

The company is a grain merchants which specialises in the production of compound animal feeds for poultry, cattle and sheep all over Scotland.

A Grampian Police spokesman said: “As is normal in these circumstances, a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”

Members of Mr Leslie’s family today revealed that he had been killed on his 49th birthday.

In a tribute, issued through Grampian Police, his heartbroken family said they wee still struggling to come to terms with the death of the “bubbly and infectious” arable farmer.

They stated: “David died on his 49th birthday. His family and many friends are devastated at David’s death and are finding it hard to come to terms with his untimely death on the day of his 49th birthday. David will be sadly missed by many.”

The statement continued: “David enjoyed farming. He was very knowledgeable and kept accurate records on his computer. He was very kind to animals. David was a truly genuine person who had a bubbly and infectious personality. He normally had a smile on his face and could always be relied upon to brighten your day. He enjoyed hill walking, photography and music. But he particularly enjoyed meeting and helping people. David could always be asked to help or would be the first to volunteer his services. David could do ‘anything’ and did it competently and well. “

Mr Leslie was the youngest son of Pat and Alice Leslie. His brother Kenneth died tragically at the age of six. He is survived by his father and older sister Sheila.
