Britons gaze into their crystal balls

MANY Britons believe 2011 is going to be a time for further belt-tightening, with the economy set to get worse, according to research released today.

The online poll covering topics ranging from love and royalty to politics reveals the nation's predictions for next year.

More than half (52 per cent) believed there will be a further dip in the economy while a terrorist attack on London was predicted by half of over 2,000 people in the survey.

But the findings by Opinion Research showed the nation's mind was often focused on higher things: 44 per cent think Robbie Williams is likely to leave Take That again.

Teleportation being invented was deemed likely by 13 per cent - the same figure predicting a UK win in the Eurovision Song Contest.

Love looks like being on the horizon for 31 per cent, while the same number foresaw Kate Middlleton, Prince William's fiance, announcing she is pregnant.

James Endersby, managing director of Opinium Research said: "Most people are seeing 2011 as a mixed bag of events with history being made for the right and wrong reasons. With thoughts stretching from love to the economy, I think we can expect big things to happen."
