Britain today: Summer camp against terrorism draws 1300

A MUSLIM conference billed as the UK's first summer camp against terrorism started today.

The three-day event in Coventry is expected to attract around 1300 young Muslims for sessions teaching religious arguments against extremists.

It has been organised by the Minhaj ul-Quran organisation.

'Use Google as model for criminal justice reform'

THE Government needs to model itself on the likes of Google and Apple as it overhauls the criminal justice system, campaigners said today.

Innovation must be at the heart of the reform of a system dominated by short-term thinking and the fear of adverse public reaction to new ideas, a report by the Young Foundation think-tank said. It called for a centre for piloting new initiatives and a scheme to fund council investment in alternatives to custody.

UK welcomes big Apple

The largest Apple store in the world opens its doors for the first time today in London's Covent Garden.

Set in the heart of one of London's busiest shopping districts, the new store is Apple's 28th in the UK and its 300th worldwide.

Ron Johnson, Apple's senior vice president of retail, said: "It is our most historic store, we've spent a lot of time refurbishing the building."
