Britain today: Raoul Moat's ex 'has blood on her hands'

The former girlfriend of gun killer Raoul Moat has blood "on her hands", his uncle said today.

In an open letter to a national newspaper, Charlie Alexander said Samantha Stobbart had goaded Moat into launching his rampage, but admitted his nephew's crimes were "inexcusable".

Social housing slammed

One in eight social housing tenants are trapped in properties away from their family or work opportunities.

An estimated 495,000 of the UK's 3.9 million families in social housing are thought to want to move home, but are unable to do so, according to affordable housing group Circle Anglia.

Coalition deal ridiculed by top Conservative

Internal Tory tensions over the coalition deal have been illustrated by unguarded comments by the man David Cameron beat for the party leadership, it has emerged.

David Davis is said to have approvingly repeated a description of the partnership between Mr Cameron and Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg as "Brokeback Coalition".

'Lean' mince not so lean

SO CALLED "lean" mince sold in supermarkets can contain up to 25 per cent fat - more than the standard alternative, according to a study.

Consumers are being let down by misleading and inaccurate labelling, some of which massively understates the true amount of fat, the Local Government Regulation found. Fat and gristle content varied between retailers.

Tributes to Healey's wife

TRIBUTES have been paid to Lady Edna Healey, the wife of former Labour chancellor Lord Denis Healey, who has died at the age of 92.

A teacher by training, Lady Healey became a successful author.

The couple were married for 64 years.

Suffolk: A monument created to commemorate the sacrifices made by British troops in Norway during the Second World War has been unveiled at Rock Barracks in Woodbridge, after being presented to 23 Engineer Regiment (Air Assault) on behalf of the city of Oslo.

London: Police arrested a man on suspicion of leaking details of the cost of protecting VIPs. The arrest is believed to relate to media stories detailing the expenses claims of people employed to protect the likes of Tony Blair. Officers arrested the 27-year-old man on suspicion of breaching the Official Secrets Act.
