Britain today: Clegg claims UK will be 'more liberal'

Britain will be "a more liberal nation" in 2015 if the coalition Government succeeds in its aims, according to Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg.

In a speech today, he was set to answer critics who accuse him of abandoning liberal principles, insisting the Lib Dems remain independent.

Policeman's wife calls Moat group 'ignorant'

The wife of the police officer shot in the face by Raoul Moat said today members of a controversial Facebook group dedicated to the gunman were "ignorant".

The creator of the RIP Raoul Moat You Legend group took down the webpage after it came under fire from Prime Minister David Cameron.

However, Siobhan O'Dowd was unrepentant, saying the former bodybuilder was "still a human being at the end of the day" and that she may reinstate the group.

OAPs' benefits unclaimed

Pensioners are failing to claim up to 5.4 billion in benefits every year even though many of them are struggling to make ends meet, research for a charity indicated today.

Age UK estimates that 1.97 million older people who are eligible for council tax benefit are not claiming it, collectively missing out on 1.5 billion a year from this benefit alone - an average of 728 each.

Williams rejoins Take That

Robbie Williams and Take That have ended months of speculation by announcing that they have reunited for a new album.
