Briefing: Hunt continues for rapist

THE hunt was continuing today for a rapist who attacked a schoolgirl down a secluded footpath in Crewe Toll.

Police are keen to trace a dog walker in his 60s who may have seen the girl with the attacker and were questioning people on the path until late last night.

Teenagers yesterday reported taking long detours to avoid the spot where the girl was attacked.

Date set for referendum on voting

A REFERENDUM on reform of the Westminster voting system is expected to be held on the same day as the Scottish Parliament elections next year.

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg is to announce the date for the referendum next week.

But if it coincides with the Holyrood elections on 5 May next year, there are fears it could overshadow the Scottish Parliament vote.

Body of teenager returns to Scotland

THE body of a teenager who died in a quad bike accident in Greece is back on Scottish soil after thousands of pounds were raised to repatriate his remains.

Friends and family of James Waddell, 18, who was struck by a taxi after falling from his quad bike on 20 June, held several fundraising events to help return the former Forrester High School pupil home.

It is understood his body was flown into Edinburgh on Wednesday.

His funeral will be held next week.
