Bridget rivals in charity boost

Screen stars Hugh Grant and Oscar winner Colin Firth reignited their on-screen rivalry with a real-life battle over Bridget Jones.

The actors fuelled a bidding war at a charity auction for a walk-on part in the next movie about the bumbling singleton, created by writer Helen Fielding.

Their competing bids helped to push the price of the part up to 55,000, which was paid by an unnamed bidder.

Firth bidded for the part, despite already being signed up to reprise his role as Bridget's love interest Mark Darcy in the film.

Grant, who played Bridget's ex-lover Daniel Cleaver, made an opening bid of 10,000.
