Bridge yob throws traffic cone on to car

A HOGMANAY hooligan is being hunted after hurling a traffic cone off North Bridge.

The missile fell 70ft on to Market Street in the early hours of New Year’s Day, striking the windscreen of a private hire vehicle.

The male driver was unhurt in the incident at 4.55am on January 1, but police are appealing for witnesses to the “very serious incident”.

Constable Seona Fleming said: “This is a very serious incident as the driver of the private hire vehicle had a very lucky escape – he could have been very seriously injured as a result of this.”

In 2006, 23-year-old student Kate Flannery, from Galway, was hit by a traffic cone thrown off George IV Bridge. Andrew Smith, 30, was ordered to carry out 180 hours of community service.
