Bridge work is completed

A HISTORIC bridge in Livingston has been given a new lease of life after a £250,000 strengthening project.

The Howden Bridge was built in 1764 and carries the B7015 road between Mid Calder and Howden, Livingston.

Work on the category B listed structure, which had been restricted to three tonnes gross vehicle weight since 2005, is complete and there are now no weight restrictions.

Martyn Day, executive councillor for transport and development, said: "The works should significantly extend the life of the historic structure."
