Bride-to-be cleared of stab attack

A BRIDE-TO-BE stabbed who stabbed her fiance in a row over her drinking was yesterday found not guilty of assaulting him to the danger of his life.

A jury cleared Claire Wallace of stabbing Charles Docherty to his severe injury after a two-day trial at Perth Sheriff Court.

He told the court he decided to go to bed instead of taking her out for more drinks after a night out.

Mr Docherty, 23, told the jury that he “rolled over and went to sleep” and was woken up by what he thought was a punch.

He said he felt a “sharp, shooting pain” and looked down to see there was blood pouring out of him.

He said that Wallace, 22, was on the bed next to him holding a knife. He had sustained a punctured lung in the attack on 3 January last year.

Wallace, Torwood Place, Dundee, denied endangering Mr Docherty’s life by assaulting him with a knife to his severe injury and permanent disfigurement.

Mr Docherty said he told the 999 staff that he had been stabbed by a stranger while out walking his dog as he wanted to protect his partner.
