Brian Cox wins rector post at Dundee

ACTOR Brian Cox has been chosen as the next rector of the University of Dundee.

The Emmy Award-winning actor was given overwhelming backing by the students in his home city, netting almost twice as many votes as the other candidates combined.

According to the university, the strong turn-out was boosted by new online voting.

The 63-year-old star will be formally installed as rector in a spring ceremony.

He takes over the role from former diplomat Craig Murray.

The rector is elected to represent the students' interests.
