Brawling boxer picked for Delhi games

A TEENAGE boxing champ who is on probation for his part in a gang brawl is set to star for Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in India.

Iain Butcher, 18, has been handed a place in the 191-strong Team Scotland for the 19th games, which will are due to be held in Delhi in October.

The teenager, of Motherwell, Lanarkshire, is one of six boxers who will fight for medals in the Scotland team.

Last night questions were raised over Butcher's involvement in the event.

Tory MSP for Central Scotland Margaret Mitchell said: "It has to be hoped he realises the numerous opportunities he has been given and can do his country proud."

Butcher was caught up in a street brawl on 22 May last year and in January was put on probation for a year, along with his two brothers.
