Brave soldier sets sights on Paralympics

A SOLDIER whose legs were blown off by roadside bomb in Afghanistan is already looking ahead to becoming a paralympian.

In July Sergeant Michael Yule, 31, was on patrol in Helmand province when he stepped on the improvised explosive device. As well as losing both legs, he suffered internal injuries, a broken pelvis, lost the skin off one hand and arm and fractured the other.

Despite his horrific injuries, the 31-year-old Royal Engineer from Wallyford, East Lothian, remained calm enough to give first aid instructions to other patrol members.

The father-of-one, who is also a world champion power lifter, is said to be considering the move into paralympic sport.

His aunt, Anne Sheridan, said: "What he said when he came round was he wants to go into every event he can in the disabled Olympics. Whatever he does he wants to be the best."
