Boys charged over alleged bogus school fundraising

Two teenagers have been charged in connection with an apparent fraudulent fundraising account linked to a struggling school, police said yesterday.

Edinburgh's St Margaret's school shut down in June after going into administration, despite efforts by parents to raise enough money to keep it open.

Two teenage boys, aged 17 and 18, will appear in court in connection with the case on a date that has not yet been decided, police have confirmed.

A fundraising campaign to save the school, founded in 1890, had been established by parents of pupils to save the school, although the teenagers have not been charged in relation to this.

About 2.5 million was raised by the parents but it was announced on 23 June that the campaign to save the independent school, in the Newington area of the city, had been unsuccessful.
