Boy knocked down and killed by 4x4

A SIX-year-old boy has died in Ayrshire after being struck by a 4x4, police confirmed today.

The boy, who has not been named, was struck by a Land Rover Freelander car while he crossed Main Street in Dundonald yesterday afternoon.

He suffered serious injuries and was taken by ambulance to Crosshouse Hospital, Kilmarnock, before being transferred to the Southern General

Hospital in Glasgow, where he died of his injuries.

A full report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

The female driver of the car was uninjured but left "badly shaken" by the crash.

Sergeant Robbie Foster, of Ayr Road Policing Department, said enquiries into the accident were ongoing.

He said: "The area would have been busy with both motorists and pedestrians, and I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact Ayr Road Policing."
