Boxing champion's brother jailed for 'vicious' pub attack

THE brother of Commonwealth boxing champion Kenny Anderson has been jailed for three and a half years for his part in a "vicious" attack in an Edinburgh pub.

Judge Lord Bracadale told Bernard "Benny" Anderson, 27, and Jacob McMillan, 29, that "such assaults have the potential to cause death or severe brain injury".

Anderson, of Drumdryan Street, Tollcross, and McMillan, of Lauriston Place, attacked Scott Gray after a karaoke night at the Kings Arms in Home Street.

Mr Gray was punched off a bar stool and repeatedly kicked, stamped and jumped on by the two friends. They also admitted assaulting John Penner to his injury during the same incident on March 20 last year.

Glasgow High Court heard that Mr Gray's sister was Anderson's ex-girlfriend. Before the attack the pair had an "abrasive exchange" and Mr Gray threatened Anderson with violence if he approached his sister again.

The court heard that Mr Gray suffered no long-term ill-effects.

Gold medallist Kenny said at the time that if his brother had "fallen on the wrong side of the law" he would have to deal with the consequences.
