Booze is the cancer culprit

AVOIDING alcohol rather than indulging in extra greens is key to cutting cancer, Lothians residents have been warned.

Experts said today there was still no convincing evidence that eating more fruit and vegetables cut the risk of the disease developing.

It was far more important, they said in the British Journal of Cancer, that alcohol and obesity were identified as the main culprits.

Tens of thousands of adults in the Lothians drink "hazardous" amounts each week, costing the health board millions.
