Booze and cigarettes under further fire

THE dangers of alcohol and passive smoking are set to come under the gaze of doctors this week as they debate measures to improve public health.

The British Medical Association conference will hear calls for restrictions on smoking in cars to help protect passengers from second-hand fumes.

And doctors will revive debate about the benefits of placing a minimum price on alcohol - a move widely expected to be implemented in Scotland with a newly grown SNP administration. A previous attempt to introduce such legislation failed amid a lack of support from MSPs.
