Boost for Dons’ stadium plans

SENIOR planners are backing proposals by Aberdeen FC to build a training complex on the outskirts of the city, as part of the football club’s ambitious plans to move to an iconic “glow-in-the-dark” stadium at Loirston Loch.

Councillors are now expected to give the green light to the multimillion-pound proposals next Thursday.

The proposals include plans for a 1,500-capacity stadium for Highland League side Cove Rangers, together with an indoor sports, fitness and community facility and six outdoor pitches, including three full-sized grass pitches, one of which would be floodlit, and a floodlit all-weather synthetic pitch. An Aberdeen FC spoksman said: “Both football clubs are delighted that the application has been recommended for approval.”
