Bomb disposal team sent to Dalmarnock Road in Glasgow

Roads were closed off in the east end of the city on Friday morning.

A number of homes in Glasgow were evacuated early on Friday (July 17) after police discovered a “suspicious item” in a property.

A bomb disposal team is on the scene in the east end of the city and several streets have been closed off as a precaution.

Police Scotland said the item was discovered in the early hours of Friday morning.

Inspector Stevie Kinvig, from London Road Police Office, said: “As part of an ongoing police inquiry, officers attended an address on Dalmarnock Road around 4.30am on Friday when a suspicious item was found within.

“As a precaution, a number of surrounding residential properties have been evacuated and roads surrounding the area have been temporarily closed.

“There are no injuries and the EOD (explosive ordnance disposal) are currently in attendance. Inquiries remain ongoing into the incident.”

A Royal Navy spokesman said: “I can confirm that a Royal Navy bomb disposal team from Northern Diving Group, based at HM Naval Base Clyde, are attending the scene in support of Police Scotland.”

Dalmarnock Road is closed in both directions and Baltic Street is closed at Garval Street, Glasgow City Council's traffic control and management service said.

Drivers are advised to use an alternate route.
