Bogus caller in tax scam

RESIDENTS in Midlothian are being urged to remain vigilant after a number of bogus caller incidents.

Two residents from Loanhead and Gorebridge contacted the council recently to say they had received a call from a bogus caller who attempted to lure them into a scam.

The caller claims to be a council employee or from a private company, before stating that the resident has paid too much council tax and then asking for bank details.

Midlothian Council leader Derek Milligan said: "We will never call our customers and ask for their bank details over the phone. Residents should be vigilant and report any suspicions to the council and police.

"We are asking residents to assist vulnerable members of their family, friends and the local community."
