Body of former headteacher recovered

POLICE hunting for a missing hillwalker who disappeared earlier this week in the west Highlands yesterday confirmed they had found a body.

Retired head teacher William Johnston, 63, from Westhill, Aberdeen, was reported overdue from a walk on the South Cluanie Ridge in Glen Shiel on Monday night.

A search was launched involving Kintail Mountain Rescue Team, a helicopter and search and rescue dogs, but Mr Johnston's body was found near Am Fraoch-choire, Glen Shiel, early yesterday.

His body was transferred to MacKinnon Memorial Hospital on Skye.

It is understood Mr Johnston was a former head teacher at Aberdeen Grammar School. His next of kin have been informed.
