Body is found during river hunt for missing pensioner

THE body of a man has been found during a river bank search for a pensioner who vanished from his home in West Lothian on Monday.

Robert Irvine, 76, was last seen at the house in Beauly Drive, Livingston, at 11.15pm on Monday.

Teams from Lothian and Borders Police have been searching the banks of the River Almond since Tuesday night. Marine officers were out on the water looking for signs of Mr Irvine with specialist imaging equipment. A spokesman for the force said that a man's body had been found in the river at around 3pm on Wednesday but added that it had not been identified yet.

He added: "Lothian and Borders Police can confirm the body of a man was recovered from the River Almond in Livingston at around 3pm on Wednesday.

"Enquiries are now ongoing to identify the man and discover the circumstances surrounding his death."
