Body found in riverbank hunt for pensioner

The body of a man has been found during a riverbank search for a pensioner who vanished from his home in West Lothian on Monday.

Robert Irvine, 76, was last seen at the house in Beauly Drive, Livingston at 11.15pm on Monday.

Marine search teams from Lothian and Borders Police have been searching along the banks of the River Almond since Tuesday night. Marine officers were out on the water looking for signs of Mr Irvine with specialist imaging equipment.

Today a spokesman for the force said that a man's body had been found in the river on around 3pm Wednesday but added that they had not indentified it yet.

He added: "Lothian and Borders Police can confirm that the body of a man was recovered from the River Almond in Livingston at around 3pm on Wednesday 10th August.

"Enquiries are now ongoing to determine the identity of the man and the circumstances surrounding his death."
