Body found in North Harris hillwalker search

POLICE searching for missing hillwalker Edward Jackson in the Outer Hebrides have found a body.

Jackson, 55, was last seen on Saturday in the Maraig to Urgha path area of North Harris.

Mr Jackson, from near Preston in Lancashire, was on a walking holiday in the Western Isles and was reported missing yesterday.

Coastguard teams, Hebridean Search and Rescue and the Police Scotland dog section all helped officers in the hunt for the missing man, also known as Ted.

Police later confirmed that the body of a man was found in the Western Isles this afternoon during the search for the hillwalker.

Formal identification has not yet taken place, but Mr Jackson’s next of kin have been informed.
