Blood transfusion service to build new HQ in Capital

The Scottish National Blood Transfusion Service is to build its new national HQ in the Capital.

The organisation chose Edinburgh over Glasgow and now hopes to create a centre, including labs, offices and other facilities, at the Heriot-Watt University Research Park at Riccarton.

Head of public affairs Lynne Kidd said: “After careful consideration and analysis by SNBTS management and trade union representatives and taking into account staff views, it was agreed that the most appropriate location for the new national centre would be within the Edinburgh area and the Heriot-Watt research park was the preferred site.

“An important factor of this development is that hospitals in Scotland will see either no change, or a noticeable improvement, in the level of service they receive.”

The organisation is to hold an exhibition to inform the public about its plans on December 8.

The exhibition, part of the project’s pre-planning consultation, will run from 3pm until 7.30pm at the Postgraduate Centre in Boundary Road.
