Blogger Mark MacLachan charged with breach of the peace

POLITICAL blogger Mark MacLachan has been charged with a breach of the peace.

It's understood the charges relate to emails sent to SNP Education Secretary Mike Russell.

The 47-year-old served as an aide to the SNP minister but quit over allegations that he used his blog, The Universality of Cheese, to make personal attacks on politicians and other public figures.

A spokesman for Lothian and Borders police said: "A 47-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with an alleged breach of the peace. A report has been sent to the Procurator Fiscal."
