BlindCraft workers to join march on Holyrood

EMPLOYEES of closure-threatened BlindCraft are expected to join a march to the Scottish Parliament in a bid to save their jobs.

Organisers of the rally, which is set to take place on Thursday, said it was the "last chance" to save the bed company, which employs dozens of blind and disabled people.

The move to close BlindCraft was rubber-stamped by the council last month after workers rejected a three-day working week.

The Community Union, which represents the majority of the 53-strong workforce, has launched a campaign to save BlindCraft, which has been providing employment to disabled people for more than 200 years.

The union's Fraser McQueen said: "This is our last chance to do something to get the council to change its mind.

"We're currently working through the details, but we're hoping for a big turnout and that as many of the BlindCraft employees will take part as possible."
