Bleakley 'excited' about Daybreak's future

PRESENTER Christine Bleakley said she is "excited" about the future of ITV's Daybreak, despite fluctuating audience figures.

More than 1.2 million people tuned in on Monday to watch an interview with David Beckham, but in October viewing figures sank to just 500,000.

The show has struggled to compete with its BBC rival Breakfast since it launched in September.

"Certainly in the face of adversity we've stuck together," Bleakley said. "Onwards and upwards. The last week has been great and I'm excited about the future."

The presenter said the show needs to earn viewers' attention.

"Having the telly on when you're walking around naked or eating your cereal, it's personal," she said. "People form habits in the mornings and don't like to change. We have to earn our right to be the choice in the mornings."

Daybreak replaced GMTV, making way for a rebrand, new studio and change of presenters.
