Blaze traps six in flats
Six people had to be rescued after a fire broke out in the stairwell of a block of flats in Haddington.
Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue Service were called to Hardgate Court shortly after 2am today. A bag of rubbish was "well alight" on the second floor of the four-storey building, with residents trapped upstairs.
A spokeswoman for the service said two women and four men were brought to safety from a top-floor flat before crews extinguished the blaze.
She said: "One of the men was suffering from smoke inhalation and he was given oxygen at the scene."
An ambulance spokesman confirmed that no-one was taken to hospital.
