Black history in spotlight

THE contribution of black culture to Scottish life will be celebrated in a string of events held next month.

Black History Month includes events in Glasgow, Stirling, Edinburgh, Dundee, Lanarkshire and East Lothian.

It is organised by the Coalition for Racial Equality and Rights and will be launched by Professor Geoff Palmer at the Hunterian Museum, Glasgow University, next Wednesday, at 10:30am.

Jatin Haria, director of CRER, said: "I hope this will be a unique opportunity to educate, document and acknowledge the positive achievements and contributions black and minority ethnic people have made."

She said contributions by black people "have made tremendous changes to our lives, yet are practically unheard of".
