Biscuit factory set to avoid cuts bite

JOBS at the Brunton Foods biscuit factory in Sighthill are secure despite more than 400 redundancies at sites across the UK, company bosses have said.

Around 600 full-time and 250 part-time employees at Burton Food Limited in Bankhead Place will keep their jobs amid a major business review at the firm's HQ, which will see the closure of two factories.

But a 5 million investment in the Edinburgh site, which primarily manufactures shortbread-based products, will retain the entire workforce and see the installation of a state-of-the-art production line to develop "world-class" facilities.

Neil Grocock, chief supply chain officer, said the "forseeable" long-term future of the factory was secure, but added it was premature to envisage new jobs after the cash boost.
