Biomass bosses reject fears

THE developers of a controversial biomass plant earmarked for Leith docks have hit back at claims made by campaigners.

Forth Energy said the proposed facility would meet strict standards, including those relating to carbon emissions, fuel sustainability and air quality.

Calum Wilson, managing director of Forth Energy, said: "Independent studies on the carbon life cycles of our proposed plants demonstrate that the carbon footprint of the plants are around 90 per cent lower in emissions than a traditional coal-fired power station.

"The impact assessment and modelling carried out by us so far indicates that the proposed plant will have no significant effect on local air quality."

Protesters against the plans claim the plant will worsen local air quality and will contribute to greenhouse gas emissions.
