Biodiversity project takes off

A GREEN charity has teamed up with Edinburgh Airport to send out biodiversity education packs to every primary school in the city, East Lothian and Midlothian.

The packs, put together by Edinburgh & Lothians Greenspace Trust, include games, seeds for a do-it-yourself mini wildflower meadow and guidance about easy ways to improve biodiversity at home and in the playground.

It also offers teachers ideas for visiting local greenspaces, including the Pentland Hills, Vogrie Country Park and Butterdean Woods, to experience good examples of biodiversity at first hand.

Six schools will also receive a free "biodiversity improvement" session with a project officer from the trust to help plant native plants, shrubs and trees or create bird, butterfly or bee-friendly areas.
