Biker fights for life after smash

A CITY motorcyclist is fighting for his life after a smash with another biker on a country road.

The 48-year-old Edinburgh man was airlifted to hospital following the crash on a remote Aberdeenshire road.

A second man, a 54-year-old from Dunfermline, was also taken to hospital after the pair collided on the A93 Braemar to Blairgowrie road on Sunday. His injuries were described as "serious".

The biker with "life threatening" injuries was taken by air ambulance to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary following the crash at about 12.20pm.

A Scottish Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: "We had a helicopter, ambulance and two doctors at the scene.

"The helicopter took one patient to Aberdeen, the second was taken by ambulance."

One local community leader branded the picturesque area a hazard for motorcyclists during warmer weather.

Braemar Community Council chairman John MacPherson said: "When it gets to summer the biggest concern on the Deeside road and the road over Glenshee is bikers.

"Usually on a Saturday or Sunday you can hear them roaring up the glen.

"Braemar is a mecca for motorcyclists. There can be around 100 bikes here on a Sunday."
