Big Mac at the Olympic Park is a world beater

THE biggest-ever McDonald's fast food outlet is to be created within the the Olympic Park - where the company will serve both spectators and athletes alike.

At 32,000 sq ft and ten times the size of the average McDonald's, the outlet - one of four to be built at the Olympic Games site, including one in the athletes village - will take the title from the company's existing biggest store, in Orlando, Florida.

The fast food giant, famed for its Big Mac burgers, expects to serve 1.75 million meals during the month of the London 2012 Games next year.

This equates to a quarter of visitors expected to visit the park buying at McDonald's.

The two-storey building will have 1,500 seats. A second outlet will also serve spectators at the park, while the other two will be built in the press centre and the athlete's village.

As the official restaurant of the Olympic Games, McDonald's will be the only branded chain to feed the athletes.

Jill McDonald, chief executive of McDonald's UK, said: "To be involved in the greatest sporting event on earth is hugely exciting and we are delighted to be able to celebrate one year to go by showcasing these plans."

The Games will begin exactly a year from now.

l More than 40,000 people have worked on the Olympic site, although the current workforce has started falling, new figures have shown.

Just under 11,000 workers are employed on creating the Olympic Park complex and the athletes' village.

More than 1,500 unemployed local people have found a job on the site, as well as more than 450 apprentices.
