Big backing for buying sustainable fish

Almost 80 per cent of people want fish on sale in the UK to come from sustainable sources that are not overfished, a poll for wildlife charity WWF has found... buying sustainable fish

But the YouGov survey revealed only a fifth of people questioned thought they were given enough information on whether fish products come from well-managed stocks.

WWF released the findings of its Europe-wide poll to back calls for reform of the Common Fisheries Policy, to ensure damaged fish stocks can recover and the seas are "healthy".

The poll suggests reform is backed by two-thirds of people in the UK.

Across Europe, the support for sustainable fishing is even higher, with the poll of 14,635 adults revealing 88 per cent favour fish coming from such sources, while 78 per cent support fisheries policy reform.
