Bid to block biomass plan

MSPs have been asked to back a ban on new waste incineration and large biomass plants.

The move would scupper controversial proposals for a biomass power station at Leith docks and could hit the waste treatment facility planned jointly by Edinburgh and Midlothian councils at Millerhill.

A petition from Green Alternatives to Incineration in Scotland, which has attracted 300 signatures, was put before the Scottish Parliament's public petitions committee yesterday.
