Betty Brown appeal gives fresh leads

MORE sightings of Betty Brown during her final movements have emerged following a major police appeal.

The remains of Elizabeth "Betty" Brown, 56, were discovered by a dog walker at a disused quarry in the Longtown area of Cumbria in January - eight months after she went missing in Edinburgh.

She was found five miles from Gretna, where her daughter Sarah lives, wearing the same clothes and carrying the same Aldi bags as when she was last seen on the No. 3 bus on Nicolson Street.

Police have yet to explain her cause of death after a post- mortem proved inconclusive.

Today Cumbrian investigators said tip-offs had yielded "potential new sightings" in the area where she was found.

Passengers on the X95 bus route between Edinburgh and Carlisle were shown pictures of Mrs Brown by police.
