Benbecula islanders polled over MoD land

RESIDENTS in Benbecula are being balloted on plans for a community buy-out of disused Ministry of Defence land.

Five areas of land on the site of the former East Camp in Balivanich are being earmarked for new sports and leisure facilities.

A total of 996 ballot papers have been sent out and the views of residents are being sought by Saturday.

The Benbecula Sport and Leisure Community Company has secured money from Highlands and Islands Enterprise's Community Land Unit and Western Isles Council towards the 53,000 asking price.
