Beer cleans up for river

The Water of Leith Conservation Trust has received a charitable donation totalling £750 through the sales of a local real ale, Maid in Leith.

The fundraising initiative was the brainchild of the Leith Agency, which worked with brewer Williams Brothers to create the brand, with all profits going to the trust.

The beer was released for a limited period and was sold in local establishments such as Fishers, The Shore and The King’s Wark and selected stores.

To celebrate, members of the Leith Agency are teaming up with volunteers to conduct a clean-up of the river in the Stockbridge area.

Trust manager Helen Brown said: “The Maid in Leith project was a fun and innovative way of spreading the message about keeping Edinburgh’s river clean.”
