Bed tax talks put on hold

A REPORT into proposals to introduce a “bed tax” in Edinburgh has been delayed.

Council officials were asked to investigate whether an extra charge on top of hotel rooms could be introduced in Edinburgh to fund festivals and events.

They were also to look at alternative schemes such as a “city-wide business improvement district”, where all firms in the city would be charged an additional “levy”.

An update report had been due to be presented to this month’s policy and strategy committee but officials sent an e-mail to councillors telling them that it will instead go to the next meeting of the committee, on February 28.
