Be alarmed over burglar alam sales tactics

POLICE today warned residents to be on their guard against unscrupulous security firms using scare tactics in a bid to sell burglar alarm systems.

Officers say there has been a recent spate of reported incidents of firms cold calling people and offering free alarm systems to people in West Lothian.

The companies have sometimes quoted crime figures which do not relate to the area, and although the system is free the firms subsequently charge an inflated annual fee to monitor the system.
